Introduction / Brief
The client purchased the former vets surgery in the centre of Ashbourne with the intention of converting it into a number of residential units.
Site / Context
The site consisted of a number of listed buildings arranged around a central courtyard located in the centre of Ashbourne. As well as the ground floor offices and surgeries of the vets. The site was made up of a number of external stores and 2 existing residential units on the first and second floor. We created proposals to refurbish the existing residential units and create a further 5 residential units
Materials
No alterations were proposed to the external appearance of the building. While internal best use was made of the existing floor plan layout to minimise issues with listed building which meant the application was approved quickly and with only minor cosmetic changes. All works were carried out where possible using materials to match existing including timbers laths and lime plasters.
Sustainability
The proposed conversion has given a prominent building in the centre of Ashbourne a new and viable use. Currently all units have been sold and are occupied.
